Flotsam and Jetsam

collaboration: Fae Logie and Tiki Mulvihill

(wood, hardware, cable, castors, 2-channel video)

Titled as the wreckage or cargo from a sunken ship, ‘Flotsam and Jetsam’ provide a simple means of nonsensical transportation or pathway of circular contemplation.  Each ‘wharf’, measuring ten feet in diameter and built from discarded construction scrap, is equipped with cable and casters.  The two circular forms float or roll independently, then touch gently, like gears in an ephemeral machine.   Placed in watery environments of trade and commerce, drifting alongside the waterfront of Vancouver or beneath a massive barge in dry dock, they contrast insignificant human scale with the grande impact of industry.
